Osman Consulting director Moustafa Osman has recently finished a three day training course on Education in Emergencies (EiE) and the INEE (Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies) minimum standards in Saudi Arabia, organised in partnership with UNESCO. The training was delivered to King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in Riyadh, and attended by 14 members of their staff from across operational departments and country offices. The attendees were very engaged, and participated with great interest in the course.
The training comes as part of one of OC’s core missions, to build the capacity of humanitarian organisations across the world in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian action. This also means ensuring that our capacity building work, the training we deliver and the knowledge we transfer are grounded in internationally recognised humanitarian standards like the INEE minimum standards.
The course was very successful, covering also how to put the standards into practice using project management cycle methodologies. By the end of the course, participants were able to conduct assessments of a scenario and design several educational interventions based on the assessments, aiming to improve the situation. The knowledge and skills developed during the training will be an important contribution to the King Salman Centre’s ability to build community resilience in their emergency response, through the design and delivery of quality and context-sensitive education projects.
Overall, the time in Saudi Arabia has been extremely positive, and the training a valuable experience for all, both participants and OC’s trainer. We are very grateful to those who attended, to the King Salman Centre for hosting, and UNESCO for organising.
